[FanHouse - Fantasy Football] Do You Think Vince Young Will Play Against the Texans?

Filed under: Domy z Bali — Admin @ 12:40 am

Filed under: Texans, Titans, AFC South, Fantasy Football, NFL Injuries

Titans quarterback Vince Young is sick of talking about his quadriceps injury, but fantasy players, betting folk, and others interested in the Texans-Titans game want to know more about it. So here’s my talking out of my rear semi-educated guess on the subject matter:

Factors for Him Starting:
Past History. Titans coach Jeff Fisher tends to keep injury information very wishy-washy, and often former-Titan QB Steve McNair would not practice, or minimally practice, and still play the game. It is likely we find out the starter on game day. Young has been receiving treatment for his injury, and reports today said he threw the ball.

Vince Young and Houston. Though Young doesn’t want to talk about the game against Houston as being special, you know he wants to stick it to the Texans every time he is in his hometown.

Factors For Him Sitting.
Nature of His Injury. Often, you can’t get straight information from teams about injuries, so you have to look em up for yourself. From the appearance and description of his injury, and in my role playing fake doctor, it sounds like he had a second degree quadriceps strain. From what I’ve read about these, Young will be able to do normal activities, but may exacerbate his problem if he runs in a full sprint.

As Mario Williams knows, it is hard to own a Lamborghini and not drive it fast. Similarly, it would be difficult to put Vince Young in a AFC South battle in his home town, and expect for him to play it like a pocket passer.

Fisher’s Statements. Jeff Fisher said that Vince Young is going to trust what the doctors tell him.

Given Young’s annoyance in talking about his injury, I am guessing it is not likely he is going to play because he sounds like a guy who is grumpy about not playing. Don’t take my word for it, this doctor guy says that re-injury to the quad is a real possibility. Also the less time the injury has to heal, the more likely that re-injury could occur, or perhaps a worse injury. Even a basic look-see on the internet has tons of stories of these sorts of quad injuries gone bad. Like this one:

Resting may be the common sense approach, but it is one that is often ignored by competitive athletes. This is unwise, since it does not take much to turn a grade one Thigh strain into a grade two, or a grade two Thigh strain into a grade three.

Why? Because athletes feel like they can function with this sort of quad strain unless they try to do something like kicking or sprinting. I’m guessing a double-threat quarterback with a chronically bad wheel would not be something that Fisher would want to cause by starting Young. A grade three thigh strain is one that requires surgery.

I could, however, be completely wrong about this, and have an open mind. What do you think the Titans will do? Start or sit Young?

[FanHouse - Fantasy Football] Fantasy Football Players Can Breathe Easy: Statistics Are in the Public Domain

Filed under: Domy z Bali — Admin @ 4:22 pm

A court’s ruling Tuesday for CBC Distribution and Marketing and against Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association won’t change a thing. Fantasy players can continue to play, fantasy companies can continue to run their games, and no one needs to get the express written consent of sports leagues.

“Statistics are in the public domain,” says Greg Ambrosius, editor of Fantasy Sports Magazine.

But it’s a little chilling to think about the potential effects of the ruling having gone in favor of the sports leagues and the players (although it was the MLB and its union that was involved in this case, they had the support of legal briefs filed by all the major sports’ player associations and licensing arms).

Basically, the ruling going in the other direction would have meant that when LaDainian Tomlinson scores a touchdown, he and the NFL Players Association own the right to the fact that he scored that touchdown, and they’d have to be compensated by anyone who wants to report the fact that he scored that touchdown.

It would get rather ridiculous. Keeping statistics in the public domain is the most sensible ruling.

UPDATE: Two of my colleagues who know infinitely more about fantasy sports than I do have more information.
Will the Fantasy Statistics Ruling Extend to Video Games?
Court to Fantasy Owners: “Game On!”

[Fantasy Football N’ Stuff] Chris Chambers in San Diego

Filed under: Domy z Bali — Admin @ 3:29 pm

Chris Chambers has less fantasy value in San Diego. I will not be scrambling to get him. In Miami, he leads the team in receiving yards. In San Diego, he will be lost in the bunch. Can you remember the last successful wide receiver to play for San Diego? It’s not because of the lack of wide receiver talent, just the game plan. They don’t need to throw with Tomlinson and Gates.

With so many offensive weapons, San Diego doesn’t need to throw many TDs. When they do, it’s generally not to a wide receiver. So far this season only 3 of 8 touchdowns have been to a wide receiver. Of the 17 total amount of touchdowns, 3 have been scored by wide receivers.

Last season 9 of 24 passing touchdowns were caught by receivers. If the stats hold true again (since the offense is almost identical, minus coaches) that means receivers should catch about 6 more touchdowns. Of those 6, I’d give at least two to Vincent Jackson, some to Buster Davis, where does Chris Chambers fit?

Chris Chambers should be worth the second round pick it took to get him. Eric Parker will not be able to return to the Chargers this season, and will be placed on the injured reserve.

Chambers could fit into the San Diego gameplan, but I would take a wait and see approach on him before putting any value on him.

[Fantasy Football N’ Stuff] What To Do If You Are 0-5

I’ve always been pretty good with fantasy football, and I usually win the league, or a majority of my games. For the first time I find myself 0-5. Due to draft malfunctions, injuries, and bad starts, my team has been terrible.

My team consists of questionable and injured players like Kurt Warner, Sammy Morris, Marc Bulger, Cedric Benson and Stephen Jackson. I also have good players like Willis McGahee, Joey Galloway, Jason Witten, and Joseph Addai.

What Can You Do?

Trade

Chances are you aren’t the only one struggling. What you really want to do is upgrade. If you have a surplus at Running Back or Wide Receiver, package them up and get 1 good player. At this point you don’t need depth, you need to win. Say you are holding some handcuffs like Kenny Watson, Michael Turner, or Sammy Morris. Those players aren’t worth anything to you when they aren’t playing, however they still have value. Adding on a wide receiver to a package someone might bite on a trade for someone who is producing now.

Hit the Waiver Wire

It’s time to cut those who aren’t producing and you can’t trade. I mentioned I still had Bulger, I’m going to get rid of him. He’s not doing me any good and he wasn’t before either. If you are holding on to players like that.

Prepare for Next Season

This mostly applies to keeper leagues. If you have no hope to win, start preparing for next year. Some leagues allow you to trade future draft picks. If you have a few players on your bench or even starting you may be able to swing deals for mid level picks. Having two picks in a round can make your team more solid.

You may be 0-5 now, but make sure you won’t be next year.

[FanHouse - Fantasy Football] Texans Andre Johnson Likely Out for Another Month

Filed under: Texans, AFC South, Fantasy Football, NFL Injuries, Houston

When Texans #1 receiver Andre Johnson strained his knee in Week 2 against the Panthers, estimates on his return were as long as five weeks. The Houston Chronicle is reporting today that it is likely that Johnson won’t be back until the November 18th home game against New Orleans.

Uh-oh.

The Texans have a history of providing overly positive assessments to fans of when players will come back. See e.g. Tony Boselli, Domanick Davis/Williams, Charles Spencer. Hopefully, Johnson’s situation is not in that league of unhappy results. For an additional information about Johnson’s injury, please check out my September discussion.

The Texans have been able to throw the ball in Johnson’s absence even without a functioning running game, but his presence is particularly missed in the red zone. If they can’t figure out how to improve red zone scoring in Johnson’s absence, field goal kicker Kris Brown is going to have a lot more opportunities like he did against the Dolphins.

[This Just In…] Three-Point Stance: Start or Sit? Week Six

Last week saw us making some fairly sound picks, but we’ve still yet to hit our stride. Stick with us, dear readers, and you’ll see TJI blossom into a juggernaut of prediction and prognostication.

Actually, relatively speaking, we’re not doing too shabby. We checked out CBS Sportsline’s Start ‘em or Sit ‘em column from Week 5 and for a fantasy sports powerhouse, they leave a lot to be desired. Their start of the week was Brett Favre, who put up sub-par numbers. They also recommended starts for stinkers Jon Kitna, Vince Young, Drew Brees, and Brandon Marshall, and advised sits on several top players of the week including Cedric Benson, Philip Rivers, Vincent Jackson, and Randy McMichael.

Makes us feel a lot better…on to this week’s tips

QB to Start

  • Eli Manning @ Falcons–With one Manning off this week, the other steps it up.
  • Brian Griese vs. Vikings–He’ll exploit a poor pass defense.
  • Kurt Warner vs. Carolina–Another poor defense set to get lit up by another retread.

QB to Sit

  • Brett Favre vs. Redskins–A semi-tough D kept him in check last week. The ’skins will do the same.
  • Jeff Garcia vs. Titans–One more bad game and the thrill will be gone in Tampa.
  • Joey Harrington vs. Giants–Unless your league gives points to QBs each time they end up on their back.

RB to Start

  • Shaun Alexander vs. Saints–A bounceback game gets Alexander back on track.
  • Willis McGahee vs. Rams–He’s been quiet so far. Until this week.
  • Brandon Jacobs vs. Falcons–Jacobs’s owners breathed a collective sigh of relief last week.

RB to Sit

  • Thomas Jones vs. Eagles–This season has been a wash for Jones. Even if he’s getting healthier, Philly should jack him up.
  • Ahman Green vs. Jaguars–The Jags will put him back on the injury report.
  • Reggie Bush vs. Seahawks–Can he shoulder the load of a #1 RB? Time will tell, but it better tell soon.

WR to Start

  • Torry Holt vs. Ravens–The Rams will get off the schneid and Holt and Ferrote keep up the good chemistry.
  • Braylon Edwards vs. Dolphins–The Phins secondary couldn’t shut down grandma Jones if she was running pass patterns.
  • Jerricho Cotchery vs. Eagles–With Coles dinged up, he bcomes the number one stunner.

WR to Sit

  • Joey Galloway–It’ll be clash of the Titans in your grill all year long.
  • Reggie Brown–One of the biggest fantasy flops in recent memory.
  • Roddie White–He hasn’t shown any concerns about your science test.

We would also recommend starting TE Alex Smith and D/ST of the New York Gians. You should stay away from Randy McMichael and the Dolphins D/ST. Bench them if you got ”em.

Until next week…keep reading and good luk!

Polskie absurdy

[Fantasy Football N’ Stuff] Fantasy Waiver Wire for Week 6

With so many players suffering injuries you need to really pay close attention to the waiver wire.

Consider these players when hitting the waiver wire this week:

Kurt Warner is the hot QB pickup of the week. He has gotten decent stats with Leinart starting, now with him out for the season, he’s in a great place to produce some points. I went out to get him after Bulger and Kitna have been hurting my team.

Jeff Garcia is only owned in 47% of fleaflicker fantasy leagues. He is a bit hard to predict, but he is a decent option at this point.

Earnest Graham could be a huge fantasy wire pickup as more and more running backs are suffering big injuries. He didn’t produce last week, but I still have faith in this pickup.

Many other running backs are on a bye week that should be able to wait on for another week. Najeh Davenport exploded against the Seahawks and could be a great pickup.

Not much on the wide receiver or tight end watch. Possible wide receiver pickups are Andre Davis, Nate Burleson, and Devery Henderson. Each have their own questionable fantasy traits. Picking one would be Burleson at home against New Orleans.

I made a last minute move on Sunday morning picking up Heath Miller in place of Todd Heap and I’m glad I did. Heap owners may need to replace him again this week, although he did practice. It’s slim pickings for me, but a possible play is Greg Olsen who scored his first TD last week.

The hot waiver wire pickup for kickers this week has got to be Kris Brown who hit 5 field goals last sunday and three of them were from more than 50 yards.

Part 1 - Introduction to MySQL Cluster The NDB storage engine (MySQL Cluster) is a high-availability storage engine for MySQL. It provides synchronous replication between storage nodes and many mysql servers having a consistent view of the database. In 4.1 and 5.0 it’s a main memory database, but in 5.1 non-indexed attributes can be stored on disk. NDB also provides a lot of determinism in system resource usage. I’ll talk a bit about that.
